THE WORKFORCE IN 2021

In 2021, the economically active persons aged 15-64 were 3,155.3 thousand or 72.0% of the population of the same age, according to NSI data. Compared to 2020, the economic activity rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points.

  • The total number of employed persons is 3,076.5 thousand, or 52.3% of the population aged 15 and over. Of all employed, 1,648.7 thousand, or 53.6%, were men and 1,427.8 thousand, or 46.4%, were women.
  • The employed persons aged 15 - 64 years are 2 986.7 thousand. The employment rate for the population in the same age group was 68.1%, respectively 72.0% for men and 64.2% for women. Compared to 2020, the coefficient increases by 0.5 percentage points.
  • The employment rate for the population aged 20-64 is 73.2%. For men, the employment rate for this age group is 77.3%, and for women - 68.9%.
  • The employment rate for the age group 55-64 is 64.8% (69.9% for men and 60.1% for women).
  • The unemployed are 171.1 thousand, of which 95.5 thousand are men and 75.6 thousand are women.
  • The unemployment rate is 5.3%, 5.5% for men and 5.0% for women. Compared to 2020, it decreased by 0.8 percentage points.
  • The unemployment rate for the age group 15 - 29 years is 10.4%.
  • The relative share of the long-term unemployed of all unemployed is 49.5%, and the long-term unemployment rate is 2.6% - 2.7% for men and 2.4% for women.
  • The economically inactive persons aged 15-64 are 1,227.4 thousand, of which 527.0 thousand are men and 700.4 thousand are women. The economic inactivity rate (15 - 64 years of age) is 28.0% - respectively 23.8% for men and 32.3% for women.
  • The number of discouraged persons aged 15-64 is 57.2 thousand, or 4.7% of all economically inactive persons in the same age group.
  • The relative share of early school leavers aged 18-24 is 12.2%.
  • The relative share of persons with higher education in the population aged 25-34 is 33.6%.
  • The relative share of the unemployed and non-participants in education and training of the population aged 15-29 is 17.6%.
