HOW TO GET RID OF PHONE SCAMS? POLICE ADVICE
Do not give money and valuables after calls from strangers, no matter who they are.
This is what the police are calling for.
The call is in connection with registered new cases of telephone fraud in various districts in the country. It aims at increased attention from citizens, as well as immediate notification and seeking assistance from law enforcement.
Phone scammers are extremely resourceful. In addition to the old schemes applied over the years, new methods are used to mislead victims.
Advice to citizens:
- Never give money to strangers, regardless of the pretext. In no case do not agree to give money and valuables by hand, throw them across the terrace, leave them in public places next to road signs, etc.
- Do not trust strangers
- Do not provide personal data and data about your relatives by phone
- Try to maintain composure when receiving a call from a person posing as your relative in trouble; doctor, police officer or other institution
- If you suspect that your loved one is on the phone, first try contacting them through a neighbor or acquaintance, preferably from a phone other than the one you received the call from.
- In the case of a call in which someone pretends to be your loved one, it is good to ask him a question, the answer to which should not be known to strangers - for example, date of birth, place of residence, etc.
- Try to do the same if pretending to be an employee or a doctor - ask control questions, ask for contact details, explain that you will ask the relevant institution, call 112, etc.
- If fraudsters demand that you not hang up, find a way, through neighbors or mobile phones, to call 112 (free of charge) or try to contact your loved ones who are allegedly injured
In case you receive a call and an attempt is made against you for telephone fraud, immediately call 112 or directly to the police department.
